EastEnders' Carmel Kazemi launches anti-knife campaign after Shakil's tragic death

EastEnders‘ Carmel Kazemi launches an important campaign next week as she tries to get knives off the streets of Walford.

Carmel (Bonnie Langford) becomes determined to make a difference in the local community after the tragic death of her teenage son Shakil.

Last week, viewers saw Carmel left devastated as she was told that Shakil had passed away after a brutal stabbing attack.

Upcoming episodes see Carmel decide to work on a fitting legacy for Shakil as she tries to prevent any more violent crimes from taking place in the local area.

Carmel starts off by putting a home-made knife surrender bin in the community centre, wanting to encourage people to give up their weapons.

There’s good news for Carmel when Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) supports her efforts, offering to help by arranging a meeting with the local MP.

Later in the week though, Carmel and Ian have an early disagreement over how it’s best to proceed – with Carmel fearing that Ian’s methods could discourage people from coming forward.

Carmel also starts to buckle under the pressure when certain quarters start questioning whether the knife surrender box is really such a good idea.

With Carmel so fragile at the moment, will she be able to cope with the high-pressure situation?

EastEnders airs these scenes on Friday, June 8 at 8pm on BBC One.
