EastEnders could be heading towards controversial waters with an incest storyline.
Viewers of the hit BBC One soap have been excited to see Tamzin Outhwaite’s character Mel Owen return to Albert Square.
And the character has returned to Walford with her on-screen son, Hunter Owen (played by Charlie Winter).
Hunter has already made an impression on Louise Mitchell (played by Tilly Keeper) with fans suspecting the pair will embark on a romance.
While Hunter is the son of Mel and her past love Steve (played by Martin Kemp and killed off during a car chase back in 2002), some suspect Louise’s father Phil Mitchell could turn out to be Hunter’s true parent.
In past episodes, Mel and Phil enjoyed a night of passion – with Mel announcing she was pregnant with Hunter four months later.
Fans of EastEnders are already bracing themselves for a controversial incest storyline emerging as a consequence.
"Hunter is going to f*** his sister lol,” one fan proposed on social media.
"Incest storyline for Louise and hunter??” predicted another – with a third suggesting: "Louise and Hunter will start dating and then in a strange twist of events, they’ll somehow end up being related."
EastEnders has flirted with incest in the past – famously with Sharon Watts (the endlessly talented Letitia Dean) falling for her on-screen brother Dennis Rickman (played by TV heartthrob Nigel Harman).
The two were only siblings by adoption and were not actually related – however other members of Albert Square still disapproved of the relationship.
