EastEnders' Karen Taylor tries to avoid 'awkward moment' as the soap airs while she's in A&E

EastEnders fans have been sending their well wishes to one of its stars, Lorraine Stanley, after the actress revealed that she was in hospital.

During tonight’s (April 17) episode, Lorraine – who plays the indomitable Karen Taylor on the soap – told fans that she was trying her best to avoid an “awkward” encounter at A&E.

“Sat in A n E in the waiting room,” she wrote as the episode aired. “Eastenders is on the tv,I’m praying I’m not in any scenes #awkward #eastenders.”

In a further tweet, Lorraine confirmed her reason for the hospital visit. “Nail infection,” she said, before offering fans some sage advice: “do not bite your nails!”

Fortunately for Lorraine, fan-favourite Karen did not make an appearance during today’s visit to Walford, as the soap concentrated on Michelle Fowler’s exit scenes.

After being (wrongly) accused of inappropriate behaviour by Hunter Owen, and realising that people would always think the worst of her in Walford, Michelle ultimately decided to pack her bags and call a taxi.

Jenna Russell, the second incarnation of Michelle, made her debut on Christmas Eve in 2016, taking over the role from Susan Tully.

EastEnders continues on Thursday, April 19 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
