Ewan McGregor has one request about the possibility of a Star Wars spin-off for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Last month, he revealed that he would be “happy” to reprise the role of the Jedi Master in a Han Solo-style standalone movie, but until anything gets confirmed, he’d much rather people stop asking him about it.
“It’s got to the point where I’ve been asked this question so many times and I answer questions when I’m asked them because I’ve been brought up like that, it’s polite,” Ewan told Jimmy Kimmel on last night’s (May 11) show.
He joked: “It’s got to the point where it looks like I’m touting for work at Disney’s front door!”
But if it does get greenlit, Ewan and Jimmy came up with a name for it: Only Obi.
Might need work, guys.
During the Star Wars Celebration last month, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy teased that the next spin-off would be announced soon.
“I think we’re getting close. My hope would be sometime around the summer. I never want to predict the creative process because it is its own thing. So, we’re in the midst of those discussions right now,” she explained.
Last October, Ewan revealed he even had an idea for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off and a greedy one at that.
“I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’s first one,” he noted. “It would be fun to film that story now I’m older. I’d be the right age. I’m 45, Alec Guinness was what, 60? I could do two of them!”
Let’s just try and get one of them made first…
