Rogue One‘s Diego Luna and Ellen Page die again and again in the first trailer for the Flatliners remake.
The promising trailer follows Luna and Page’s medical students, who along with fellow students played by James Norton, Kiersey Clemons and The Vampire Diaries‘ Nina Dobrev, attempt to understand life after death.
And, naturally, toying with death leads to some seriously freaky consequences.
The main thing we want to know from the trailer though is where is original Flatliners star Kiefer Sutherland?
He signed up to the new movie last year, later explaining that he plays a professor at the medical university, and it seems like he WILL be playing his original character of Nelson Wright.
“It is never stated but it will probably be very clearly understood that I’m the same character I was in the original Flatliners, but that I have changed my name and I’ve done some things to move on from the experiments that we were doing in the original film,” Sutherland noted.
Like the 1990 original albeit with one extra student, Flatliners sees the students stop each other’s hearts for a short period of time to trigger a near-death experience and give them a firsthand account of the afterlife.
However, as they push the boundaries of the experiment by ‘dying’ for longer and longer, they are haunted by the sins of their pasts and other paranormal things that they may have brought back from the other side.
Flatliners is released in cinemas on September 29.
