Glee star Matthew Morrison has hit out at his own movie after footage emerged from the set appearing to show animal abuse.
The actor described his heart as “broken” by the clip involving a live dog, saying he was not on set of the movie Crazy Alien at the time and was unaware of it.
The eyewitness footage, which was sent to animal rights group PETA, appears to show a German shepherd in a cage as it is spun around and thrown into a river.
Addressing the footage, Morrison wrote on Twitter: “I’ve just been made aware and seen a video from the set of a film I worked on in China.
“My heart is broken to see any animal treated this way. Had I been on set or known about this, I would have made all efforts to stop this. I’ve called the producers to express my outrage.”
Digital Spy has reached out to Morrison’s representatives for further comment.
According to PETA, a whistleblower told them the intention was to get the dog to bark “as loudly as possible” for a scene, and the dog “stopped barking instantly as the cables were used to spin the cage out of control in circles before solidly landing 40–50 feet away”.
There were reportedly multiple takes for numerous scenes involving the dog in the cage, with the process taking a few hours and the animal allegedly not getting a break.
