HBO aims to prevent Game of Thrones season 7 leaks by not releasing screeners again

Game of Thrones is taking every measure possible to prevent those pesky people on the internet from leaking any details of the upcoming season.

Just like last year, the press will not be given episodes early to preview and review and instead will have to make do with watching it along with the fans, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Following an early leak of the first four episodes of season five in 2015, HBO decided not to send out press screeners for season six last year, so it looks like this is becoming Game of Thrones‘ new normal.

But despite the added precautions, the secrecy may all be for nothing as even Jaime Lannister actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau said spoilers are already out there.

“Every year there are huge spoilers online where people find out real stuff and they will post it, and you go, ‘Oh my God, they just spoiled the whole season online!'” Nikolaj said.

“But then, because there’s 10,000 other spoilers out there, they’re not real. It just gets lost in the shuffle.

“It’s all out there by the way… if you can find it.”

Basically, you don’t have to worry about someone leaking the actual episodes because you can pretty much spoil it for yourself, if you know where to look.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO in the US on Sunday, July 16 at 9pm ET and at 2am on Monday, July 17 on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
