Disney is planning another Herbie reboot, this time on the small screen.
A new spin-off series following the adventures of the anthropomorphic Volkswagen Beetle is currently in development as a potential series on Disney XD, reports TV Line.
The series reportedly hasn’t decided whether its lead child will be male or female. In fact, the channel is said to be looking for a girl or boy to play Lili or Landon Reed, so it’s open to casting either.
The potential series would be written by Travis Braun (Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders), who will executive produce the series alongside long-time Disney alum Tom Burkhard and Matt Dearborn (Zeke and Luther, Even Stevens).
So, what, no female writers on this show either?
Herbie first appeared in Disney’s 1968 film The Love Bug and has since been the subject of several big and small screen adaptations.
These include Lindsay Lohan’s 2005 movie Herbie: Fully Loaded as well as a 1982 television series, Herbie, the Love Bug, and also a made-for-TV movie.
There’s no word yet on whether LiLo might be involved in the new show, but don’t hold your breath. The 30-year-old will next be seen fronting a social media reality TV show, and starring in a Sky 1 comedy opposite Rupert Grint and Nick Frost.
