The first poster for Jennifer Lawrence’s new movie mother! has dropped, and she looks genuinely spooky / terrifying.
Director Darren Aronofsky shared the image from his and J-Law’s first project together, writing on Instagram: “HAPPY mother! DAY #firstlook #mothermovie executed by the great @jamesjeanart with inspiration from @jessicaharrison.co.uk#jenniferlawrence #javierbardem #michellepfeiffer #edharris@paramountpics #protozoa #kristenwiig #domhallgleeson”.
The picture, which is styled like a painting rather than a photo, shows Jennifer looking vacant and somewhat desperate, with her heart torn from her chest.
Oh, and she’s holding her own heart and the blood spilling from her sternum is staining her lovely white dress.
As explained by Aronofsky, the image is inspired by the artwork of artist Jessica Harrison, who makes porcelain figures of painted ladies – but with a twist.
Javier Bardem is set to star alongside Lawrence. The pair play a couple whose relationship is “tested” by uninvited guests in their otherwise tranquil home. So far, so ominous.
The cast also includes Michelle Pfeiffer (aka the most glorious woman in the world), Domhnall Gleeson, Ed Harris and Kristen Wiig.
mother! is reportedly scheduled for an October release, so we don’t have to wait too long to find out if it can live up to its Oscar-winning horror predecessor.
