Liar: Joanne Froggatt shocks as she reveals ending to new ITV drama: This Morning fans thought Joanne Froggatt had given away the thriller’s ending [ITV]
Appearing on This Morning ahead of the dark thriller’s debut episode, the actress, who is best known for her roles in Coronation Street and Downton Abbey, spoke about her new role.
Viewers will see her play Laura, a teacher whose life is turned upside down when she believes she’s been raped after a date with surgeon Andrew.
However, Andrew, played by Ioan Gruffudd, hits back at the claims by insisting that the sex was consensual.
Telling This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby what they can expect, Laura revealed: “The theme is lying and deceit and all the characters are embroiled in either their own lie or someone else’s.

“Laura, who I play, and Andrew, who Ioan Gruffudd plays, meet and events unfold throughout that night and they have very different opinions on what happens.
“We do find out who’s lying about halfway through the six episodes which then adds to more twists and turns and ultimately it’s a thriller but it will hopefully open up discussions.”
However, Laura’s comments about the upcoming twist stopped viewers in their tracks when they thought she gave away the storyline.
Believing that Laura had revealed that Ioan’s character would be exposed as the liar, one annoyed viewer commented: “#thismorning was looking forward to #liar but Joanne Froggatt just gave away that he’s lying, would have been nice to find out in own time.
While another wrote: “Jo Froggatt just gave it away???”

But the confusion was soon cleared up by another fan who insisted that she didn’t give any important bits of information away.
One wrote: “No, she said, ‘who was lying’ it did sound like she said ‘he’ but she said ‘who’, rewind it and give it a listen!”
As fans start to follow the new thriller, Joanne recently admitted that she almost turned down the role of Laura due to the nature of the storyline.
Speaking to the Express about how she had reservations about playing a rape victim again after her Downton Abbey character was sexually assaulted, the actress said: “Yeah, absolutely. It was a thought process. I did sort of read it and go, ‘Oh, if only it was a different subject matter’.

“Obviously when I started Downton, my character was lovely and she wasn’t going through a traumatic time and it was sort of a love story. So I didn’t know I was going to be given that storyline.
“Laura is flawed. She does things that I had to ask ‘Why? Why? That’s just not a good thing to do’. That really interested me.”
Liar airs on ITV at 9pm every Monday.
