Lifetime releases trailer for controversial Oscar Pistorius biopic Blade Runner Killer

Lifetime, purveyor of dodgy made-for-TV movies and factually dubious biopics, has released the trailer for its Oscar Pistorius movie.

Awkwardly subtitled Blade Runner Killer to no doubt take advantage of the upcoming Blade Runner 2049, you can probably expect how this is going to turn out…

Pistorius achieved fame after competing at the Paralympic and Olympic Games, but was sentenced to six years in prison for the 2013 killing of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp

The movie chronicles the relationship between the athlete and Steenkamp, the night of her death, and the events that unfolded in the courtroom after.

The family of Pistorius have called the Lifetime movie “a gross misrepresentation of the truth” and vowed to take legal action against the filmmakers.

Reeva’s sister Simone has also told the MailOnline that her parents are ‘furious and horrified’ by the project.

“My mother was mortified when she first found about it,” Simone added. “When I told her about it, she said, ‘You have upset me now’. She was not happy.”

As you can imagine, reaction to the trailer hasn’t exactly been positive, with people criticising both the quality of the product and the fact it exists at all:

Earlier this year, Lifetime debuted its Britney Spears biopic Britney Ever After, which told the story of her rise to fame and her notorious breakdown in the mid-2000s.

Fans promptly tore it to shreds, with celebrities such as Tyler Oakley and Sarah Michelle Gellar joining in on trashing it.

Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer will premiere on Lifetime on Saturday, November 11. (It’s not going to make our Best of 2017 list.)
