Love Island’s Zara reveals why she didn’t have sex with Adam

Zara McDermott may have fallen for love rat Adam Collard during her stint on Love Island, but she was very careful that nothing became too x-rated.

That’s because the government advisor, 21, was very conscious that her job has a very strict code of conduct in place.

This meant that Zara has to be very careful that things didn’t get too steamy between her and Adam.

She told The Sun on Sunday : "I really fancied Adam and it was difficult not to take things further. Who isn’t tempted when you’re really into someone? We were unbelievably close, inseparable.

"It was tough when I was in bed with a man I really liked and cared about. But I was nervous about my job if I had sex on screen. There is a strict code of conduct you have to follow, so I was very conscious about everything I said and did.

"My job holds a bit of clout and I’ve done some pretty amazing things, so it’s not something I wanted to jeopardise."

But while Adam’s antics on the show, which led to Kendall, Rosie and herself being dumped from the Island, have been slammed by viewers and women’s rights campaigners, Zara said that it had "upset" her to see so much negativity about him.

She said that his agenda was to "have fun" and "be selfish".

"It’s a shame to hear people say he’s emotionally abusive," she said. "His conversation with Rosie was probably 40 minutes long but on-screen it was two or three minutes.

"That situation potentially wasn’t handled as best as it could have been but the whole conversation wasn’t shown and a lot more was said. The edit took Rosie’s side, when potentially it shouldn’t have."

Zara, who previously worked with Michael Gove at the Department for Environment, failed to tell her bosses that she would be entering the villa.

She was later warned that she would be facing the sack if she either broke rules on expressing her political views publicly or misbehaved.

Revealing that she had to sign a non-disclosure agreement with ITV, meaning that she couldn’t tell anyone, she said: " I told my work I was going on a reality TV show on ITV, so I didn’t exactly hide it from them.

"I don’t think going on Love Island has affected my ability to do my job."

She added: "If I had gone and had sex with five guys on TV, I’d completely understand! But all I did was kiss one guy. It’s not major."

However Zara revealed the department have since said that they are happy to have her back at work.

Zara reckoned that being on the show was worth in: "It opens up the government to a wider audience. It shows diversity.

"Working in government doesn’t mean I can’t pursue something fun and exciting or bring something new to my life."
