Some of the Mean Girls cast have reunited to help raise money for the victims of the Las Vegas terror attack.
Today is October 3 – known in Mean Girls lore as the day on which Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) tries to engage her crush Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett) in conversation by asking him for the date.
You know… this moment:
October 3 has since been known as ‘Mean Girls day’, with the cast of the movie often marking the occasion by sending out love to fans on Twitter.
However, the tragic Las Vegas shooting on Sunday evening – in which 59 people were killed and 527 injured after a gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel during the Route 91 music festival – meant the cast weren’t much in the mood for celebrating.
So, as America tries to recover from the deadliest mass shooting in its history, the cast have decided to band together to raise money for the victims.
Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels), Amanda Seyfried (Karen), Lacey Chabert (Gretchen) and Daniel Franzese (Damien) appear in the video, which was originally posted on Bennett’s Twitter feed.
Called “Mean Girls for Las Vegas”, the initiative is being organised in association with the National Compassion Fund and asks fans to donate $3 in the hope of raising $300,000 to benefit victims of the shooting.
“On October 3, he asked me to help,” said Bennett. “Mean Girls, please help the victims of the tragedy in Las Vegas at http://Gofundme.com/October3.
“Do something grool today. Let’s hit this goal together. We might not make fetch happen, but we can make this happen.”
Bennett was the first to donate, adding £1,003 to the fund, and you can donate right here.
