It’s official: New Girl will be finishing its run after all – but not until after we get a seventh season with Jess and the gang.

The season six finale of the Fox show, which started way back in 2011, actually tied the whole show up pretty nicely.
Jess and Nick finally ended up together again, after being on-off since season two, while CeCe and Schmidt announced their pregnancy, and it all seemed pretty classic end-game.
Even the actors themselves thought that the show might come to an end this year.
But Fox has chosen to renew the show for one final hurrah – meaning we’ll get to see some of the things executive producer Dave Finkel said fans could look forward to if the show got another series.
Exploring Jess and Nick’s new (old?) relationship will obviously form a pretty big part of the final season, as will Schmidt as a (no doubt hilarious) dad.
“I think that it’d be really, really fun – the way that it was fun to see Schmidt as a bridezilla – to see Schmidt as a helicopter daddy for his child and see what he’s like as a father,” Finkel said.
Whatever happens, season six gave New Girls fans all the closure they really need when Schmidt’s first name was finally revealed. Everything else will just be a bonus.
Season seven of New Girl will air its final eight episodes on Fox in 2018.
