It’s time to start preparing your goodbyes, because the premiere date for New Girl‘s seventh and final season has been announced.
After coming dangerously close to being cancelled, the sitcom was pulled back from the brink for one last season, which will hit our TV screens on Tuesday, April 10 in the US.
TVLine is reporting that New Girl‘s eight-episode run will air uninterrupted for six weeks before concluding with an hour-long series finale on May 15.
The upcoming instalment of the show will take place after a four-year time jump, because how else can you allow your characters to properly progress in one short season?

After returning from a European book tour (natch), Jake Johnson’s Nick and Zooey Deschanel’s Jess are contemplating marriage, until Jess’ ex-boyfriend Russell gets in the way of things.
Sure, a time jump may leave us rolling our eyes a little bit, but apparently it was one of the things that got series creator Liz Meriwether her final season.
The last run is believed to feature major storylines for all of the main characters over the space of a year, including one huge milestone that we’re guessing will be wedding-shaped.
Which is just as well, because executive producer Brett Baer has previously admitted that he’d love a good wedding in the future. “I think that it’d be really, really fun,” he teased.
New Girl airs on Fox in the US and E4 in the UK.
