Nicole Scherzinger’s Dirty Dancing remake suffers online backlash after fans believe it will never be better than the original

Abigail Breslin and Colton Pratt were cast in the roles of Baby and Johnny, with Nicole Scherzinger as Penny Johnson, and the first official photos have been released.

Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey famously played the lead roles in the 1987 film that has become a beloved fixture in cinematic history.

While Many have celebrated the new version there are more than a few Dirty Dancing fans who are not impressed by the remake or what they’ve seen so far.

“No! No! No! Why can’t these film people get their own ideas and leave the classics alone!” wrote one fan on Facebook.

“There will NEVER be a better Johnny & Baby than Patrick & Jennifer.”

Another fan wrote: “No no. Wish they would stop doing remakes. This film won’t be better then the original, no one can play Johnny better then the late Patrick swayze and the new Johnny isn’t even good looking. The original will always be a classic.”

“Why on earth would they remake it?!’ exclaimed another fan. “Leave it the hell alone! Original doesn’t need improving upon!”

People have been taking to Twitter to share their outrage too:

The film will premiere on ABC, May 24, and is reportedly going to be a three-hour musical adaption.

Debra Messing and Bruce Greenwood play Baby’s parents, Dr. Jake and Marjorie Houseman, while Modern Family star, Sarah Hyland, takes on the role of Baby’s sister, Lisa.

Star Wars star, Billie Dean Williams, plays band leader Tito and Sons of Anarchy’s Katey Segal plays Vivian Pressman.

The film follows the same storyline as the original, where a straight-laced teen from a well-off family falls in love with a working class dance tutor at a family vacation retreat in the 1960s.
