There was a pretty big part of us that didn’t quite believe Quentin Tarantino’s next film would be Star Trek-related, but it seems as though it’s all systems go for the R-rated project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tarantino and JJ Abrams’ as-yet-untitled take on Star Trek has beamed up a new screenwriter in the form of The Revenant‘s Mark L Smith.
We probably don’t need to remind you that The Revenant is what bagged Leonardo DiCaprio his long-awaited Oscar, and Leo isn’t exactly shy of a Tarantino project – so could the actor’s next venture take him into outer space? Here’s hoping.
Details about Tarantino’s Star Trek are extremely thin on the ground, but Leo’s not the only star who may be in line for a role – Sir Patrick Stewart could be on board, too.
The acting legend, who played Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard on both the big and small screen, recently revealed that he would love to work with Tarantino.
“People are always saying to me, ‘Will you be Jean-Luc Picard again?’ And I cannot think that would be possible, but there are ways in which something like that might come about.

“But one of my dreams is to work with Tarantino. I admire his work so much, and to be in a Tarantino film would give me so much satisfaction,” he admitted.
Stoking our excitement for a film we know almost nothing about, Stewart added: “[If] there was the possibility of dear old Jean-Luc showing up again… for Mr Tarantino, I would embrace it.”
It sounds like Tarantino’s Star Trek might be boldly going where no-one has gone before – and we’re so ready for it.
