Rachel Dolezal may have admitted she was “biologically born white,” but her makeup implies otherwise.
Netflix just dropped a clip from “The Rachel Divide,” a documentary starring the troubled former NAACP president and lollipop saleswoman — who still appears to be wearing “blackface,” as many social media users have pointed out.
In the clip, Dolezal’s son, who is black, openly criticizes his mother for permitting the media circus around their family to continue.
Social media users feel for him. Ijeoma Oluo, who interviewed Dolezal for the website the Stranger last year, tweets, “I’m sad and disappointed that @netflix is dragging out this harmful s–t. Even more upset at how the pain of her teenage son seems to be put on display.”
Others are simply tired of white people trying to take credit for the black experience.
Writer Charles M. Blow tweets, “Oh hell no! When PERFORMING blackness gets more attention than actually BEING BLACK.”
The documentary premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival beginning April 18, and will be available for streaming April 27.
