Riverdale gets a new season 2 trailer that asks the million-dollar question: Who shot Fred Andrews?

With just a month left until new episodes of Riverdale hit our screens, we’re into the final stretch of that end-of-season hiatus – and our wait to find out what happened after Fred Andrews was shot at Pop’s is almost over too.

The good news is, knowing that we’re liable to over-analyse every small bit of information we can get our hands on to try and discern whether Fred lives or dies this season, The CW has premiered a new trailer focusing entirely on the reasons why Archie’s dad could have been targeted.

The bad news is, it doesn’t tell us much at all. And it may have even made the remaining wait feel more of an age too.

The 30-second clip picks up with a distressed Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) being held at gunpoint, before quickly setting up the new mystery at hand via shots in the hospital and Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) trailing sentences.

“If robbery wasn’t the motive…” he says, “people hold grudges.

“Think of where we live.”

Alongside a bloodied Archie waiting for news of his dad, the trailer also teases Cheryl Blossom’s (Madelaine Petsch) newfound devil-may-care attitude, Jughead watching for someone in the shadows, and Archie making shady deals.

And then there are also the quick flashes showing that Veronica and Archie and Betty and Jughead are still very much on. It must be before Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) appears to cause trouble for Bughead then…

Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has already promised we’ll find out Fred’s fate by the end of the premiere, and we know from the Comic-Con trailer that what happens sparks off a darker side to some of the characters.

Lili Reinhart has teased that season two will see Betty Cooper “pushed to her limit”, while KJ Apa says we’ll see a “different side” of Archie, and Jughead will be in the middle of two worlds “that are starting to collide and erupt”.

Just another day in Riverdale, then.

Riverdale returns on Wednesday, October 11 on The CW in the US, with Netflix airing the show the next day in the UK.
