Russell Brand could have been making you get down now as a member of classic boyband 5ive.
Appearing on one of The Late Late Show‘s UK specials, James Corden asked Russell if it was true that he once auditioned for a boyband, leading him to recall all the details of his “pitiful” audition.
“As a young man, I made many mistakes,” he explained. “During one of my frenzies brought on by the methamphetamine, I thought that perhaps I’d do rather well in the boyband 5ive.”
His audition didn’t exactly get off to the smoothest start when he arrived with a beer, but he at least put it down before he started singing.
“I believe I sang ‘More Than Words’ by the band Extreme. I’ll recreate it if you want but it was a disaster then, and I think it would be even worse now,” Russell joked after a quick rendition of the song.
“It was a pitiful experience, the people were staring down at the table in disbelief and great disappointment by the time I left.”
Safe to say, Russell didn’t get the job and we were left with the original line-up of Sean, Ritchie, Scott, J and Abz which, over the years, has depleted to 4our when J left and 3hree when Abz departed.
“I could have been the maverick in the boyband. The troubled one, the first into rehab one,” Russell noted of his failed audition.
Don’t pretend you haven’t got ‘Keep on Movin’ in your head now for the rest of the day. You’re welcome.
