Selena Gomez praises Ariana Grande's quick engagement to Pete Davidson – but avoids mentioning ex Justin Bieber's proposal to Hailey Baldwin

The 'No Tears Left to Cry' singer reacted to the engagement in an interview about her new film Hotel Transylvania 3 by pop-culture news site Clevver on Monday.

Singer Selena became new-found friends with Ariana two years ago, after the 'Dangerous Woman' singer defended her following a split from 24-year-old musician Justin Bieber.

Given their friendship, she was asked what character Mavis, a love-speculating vampire who the pop princess plays in the movie, would think of the engagement of Grande and Davidson.

A little taken aback by the question, she chuckled: "I honestly don't know what Mavis would say – but I would say that it is amazing and beautiful."

Her joyous reaction comes under a month after the couple announced their engagement on Instagram, having dated for a mere few weeks before Pete popped the question.

By saying she thought their lightening-fast engagement was 'amazing and beautiful', many fans have been speculating she accepts the even faster nuptials of Justin and Hailey.

However, the 25-year-old didn't take up the opportunity to praise the news from her ex-boyfriend and instead has managed to dodge questions about the Canadian.

Despite being asked point blank by paparazzi and reporters on many occasions, Selena has kept her thoughts to herself.

She appeared completely uninterested by the news, and instead holidayed on a boat in New York with friends, as seen on her Instagram.

The singer was spotted sunbathing in a bikini with friends, the New York skyline in the background, and laughing as she stepped out the following morning in front of the cameras.

However, friends tell the Sun that they think Selena is privately cynical about Justin and Hailey ever making it up the aisle.

It looks unlikely the superstar will not be commenting on her ex's decision any time soon – so we will just have to wait and see.
