Stephen King gives his blessing to the long-awaited Dark Tower movie in the film’s latest teaser.
The legendary science fiction author tried for a decade to get a film version of his dystopian battle between Good and Evil off the ground, and it’s finally happened.
To celebrate its upcoming release, Stephen King delves into the film’s dense mythology that pits a lone Gunslinger (Idris Elba) and The Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey) against one another.
“When I started The Dark Tower, I really saw The Gunslinger as this concentrated force,” the author explained. “The Dark Tower has always been really important to me, so to see The Gunslinger come to life with Idris Elba was really incredible.”
Both Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey also share their own thoughts on The Gunslinger, who is the only one standing in the way of The Man in Black bending all universes to his dark will.
“Roland Deschain comes from a legacy of gunslingers, put in place to protect the Dark Tower from The Man in Black,” Idris explains. “Roland is the last of that line.”
Matthew goes on to say: “The Man in Black, he’s the Evil in this Battle of Good versus Evil. I need to bring down that tower. Roland is actually the only one who can bring me down.”
The Dark Tower will begin a shared TV and film continuity, which will extend into an episodic series that will feature Elba reprising his role as The Gunslinger.
Before the franchise hits TV, The Dark Tower opens on August 18 in the UK, two weeks on from its US release on August 4.
