Stop Whatever You're Doing Because There Is Officially a 'John Wick' Show in the Works

This is not a drill, people!

The network that brought us Outlander is now developing a TV series based on the John Wick franchise. Did it just get steamy in here, or is it just me?

Okay, let’s answer the most pressing question first. Will the film franchise’s blessed protagonist, Keanu Reeves, star in the series?

No, sadly not.

However, the show, entitled The Continental, does take place in the same universe as the John Wick movies. This means, according to THR, that there is a chance that Keanu will make an appearance in the Starz series. Reeves will also serve as one of the show’s producers.

The series itself will focus on the Continental Hotel — a hideout of sorts for assassins. And, unlike the films which were set in NYC, the TV adaptation will take place in sunny Los Angeles.

The Continental doesn’t have a series order yet, meaning that Starz could still pass on the production. But, we have an inkling that would be unlikely, since the show already has some pretty big names attached to the pilot.

For one, Chad Stahelski, who directed the previous two John Wick films, is onboard to direct The Continental‘s debut episode. And, Chris Collins (Sons of Anarchy, The Wire) has signed on as a writer and showrunner.

Chris Albrecht, Starz President, announced the news at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Albrecht expressed excitement for the viable series, saying, “The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introducing some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world.”

Listen, we doubt the higherups at Starz are reading this, but on the off chance they are: please, oh please, pick this series up.

And as one last, friendly reminder, John Wick: Chapter Three comes to theaters on May 17, 2019.
