Following the tragedy of losing her mum before the show began, The X Factor winner then received backlash from critics claiming her tears might be “fake”.
However, now the brunette stunner has reached the final, she’s taken the time to hit back at critics who slammed her tears – as she got emotional sat beside Gorka Marquez following a video of support for her and the dancer.
Fighting back the tears, she said: “Honestly, I don’t think people realise how much [the support] means. “

With tears appearing in her eyes, she addressed the backlash and swiped: “I’ll just be honest and say I know some people may not like seeing me cry but man – I’ve been through the toughest time of my life.
“I’ve seen the light at the end of the tunnel but I’m still trying to reach it. But if it wasn’t for everyone who supported what I’ve gone through, I don’t know where I’d be. I’m really grateful.”
The Strictly Come Dancing star, who is partnered with Gorka Marquez on the show, has been hit by a barrage of mean comments claiming her tears were “fake” after she got emotional on a number of occasions during the show.

But shortly after, Alexandra spoke out about the comments – saying she now feels like she can’t express her true emotions because of them.
“Twitter seems to have given people permission to be incredibly hurtful,” Alexandra told Radio Times. “They don’t seem to realise that I have feelings and get upset.
“The saddest thing is that I started the show completely myself – my joy and my tears were 100 per cent genuine, however much people said they were fake – but I’m now so self-conscious.

“I try not to react at all in case people say, ‘Oh, look, here are the fake tears again’.
“I have struggled with some of the public reaction. I’ve never experienced anything like this.”
