Producers will have to disclose within 35 days which order Alexandra Burke, Gemma Atkinson and Debbie McGee came in the grand final, after a furious fan of the show submitted a request under the Freedom Of Information Act.
While it was revealed at the time that 42-year-old actor Joe and dance partner Katya Jones had triumphed, viewers were left in the dark about who had made it into second, third and fourth places.
Many fans – who had paid 15p a phone call to vote – became angry after the final in December, and some even suggested the results were a fix.
At the time viewers took to social media to slam the lack of transparency.
One wrote: "As ever, the real #Strictly scandal is 'who came second?' #scd"
However, thanks to one fan, bosses may now be made to disclose the full order.
Back in December, they wrote: "Under the FOI you are requested to provide the voting figures for each of the final four Strictly Come Dancing candidates 2017."
In January the viewer got in touch with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) to tell them that the BBC had failed to respond.
Last month the ICO issued an official notice requiring the BBC to respond to the request within 35 calendar days, noting that failure to comply could mean they are reported to the High Court.
But yesterday a spokesman for the BBC told the Daily Mail they would not be providing an answer since they can retain information for the purposes of "art, journalism and literature".
They said: "Releasing voting figures could affect the way that people vote and also have an impact on the participants. We therefore do not disclose the exact voting figures."
It comes just a day after Craig Revel Horwood accidentally confirmed the judging line-up for this year's competition.
He told The Daily Express: "Yes, same judges. Shirley is back with us, which will be great."
"Bruno is back and being more Italian than ever. And of course the fabulous Darcey Bussell."
He continued: "I think it is a great team and it was really good last year, I can't wait to get back into it."
