There's A Real Chance Hodor Is Returning To 'Game Of Thrones'

Could it be? Is it possible that Kristian Nairn — who played naive servant, Hodor, in Game of Thrones — is returning to GoT for Season 8? One new interview suggests we haven’t seen the last of him.

Nairn, confused by the 2014 news cycle that questioned his sexuality, told Huffington Post he’s never been straight, and has never lived as a heterosexual man. His friends and Game of Thrones co-stars always knew this, he added. Then, the conversation turned to the hit HBO show. Nairn was asked about the possibility of Hodor (who suffered a mysterious death — we never actually saw him die, you know) returning to the show, and well, he didn’t say no.

“I’m not gonna tell you that. Nice try,” he replied cryptically. We think this might be a coy way of saying, “I can’t tell you that right now. But watch GoT and see for yourself.” The six-episode final season, set to premiere in April 2019, will likely end with a violent climax, and — we hope — some surprising returns. Although the show has killed hundreds of characters over the years, Bustle points out several clues that suggest a resurrection.

“As an actor I would absolutely love that and it would be so much fun to play that,” Nairn said in a separate Belfast Telegraph interview. “Maybe [Hodor’s] not dead, maybe he’s just roaming round the countryside eating berries like a grizzly bear.”

With Season 8 production wrapping at the end of 2018, Nairn said that even if he doesn’t make it into the finale, he’s okay with the way his character went out. “Hodor was such a close character in my heart, also to the fans of the show. I think he deserves that send-off,” he shared earnestly.

“You never know. You’ll see in … God knows how many bloody years it is until [Season 8] is released,” said the beloved actor, who still has emotional exchanges with fans.

The good news is that we don’t have to wait much longer.

See you in 2019, GoT.
