The Walking Dead fans got pretty excited seeing Old Man Rick at the end of the season eight first-look trailer.
And while comic book readers think they know what’s going to happen, creator Robert Kirkman has revealed that we won’t have to wait long before we learn the truth behind that special scene.
“I’m pretty sure you’ll learn in the first episode what that means,” he said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour (via Entertainment Weekly).

In case you didn’t see, the trailer which debuted at Comic-Con closed with an older-looking and seriously-bearded Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) waking up in bed.
Comics fans reckon that this scene correlates to a time jump that will happen, just like in the source material (if you want to read more about it, go here).
But Kirkman is remaining coy, saying that the scene is maybe something else.
“Was it the time jump? I don’t know, maybe it was Rick waking up from his coma,” Kirkman said (via Entertainment Weekly). “Wouldn’t that be weird?
“That is an intriguing titbit that we did throw out there on purpose, and we’re hoping that people continue to question how it is that fits into the storyline and what it is.
“Comic book fans know where a scene that kind of looked like that would fall, but it also doesn’t seem like we would be getting to that just yet if you were a comic book fan, so there’s a mystery to that.”
The Walking Dead launches its eighth season on October 22 on AMC in the US. It will air on FOX in the UK.
