'Wonder Woman' Will Not Be Fighting 'Star Wars' at the Box Office

The Wonder Woman sequel will be gracing the big screen sooner than anticipated. On Monday morning, Warner Bros. announced that Wonder Woman 2 will now premiere on Nov. 1, 2019, six weeks earlier than its originally scheduled Dec. 13, release date.

The move was likely due to anticipated box office competition. With Star Wars: Episode IX now set to debut on Dec. 20, Wonder Woman 2‘s original release date would’ve only given Diana a week of unfettered box office domination. As it stands now, the Patty Jenkins-directed action film faces no competition for the week of Nov. 2019.

Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Warrior Princess of the Amazons after reports that she would opt-out of the film if producer Brett Ratner was involved. Ratner, most notable for directing the Rush Hour franchise, has been accused of sexual misconduct by several actresses including Ellen Page and Olivia Munn. However, it looks like Warner Bros. won’t be forced into an ultimatum after all. The deal between Ratner’s financing company RatPac-Dune Entertainment and Warner Bros. expires in Spring 2018.

So basically we get a Ratner-free movie sooner than expected. It’s a win-win!
