Described on its website as a “festival for kinky, quirky, creative hedonists”, it showcases musicians and DJs as well as circus-style performers with sword-swallowing and fire.

Its adult “play area” allows festival-goers to “explore kinks” and “play within the boundaries of our common-sense rules” with dominatrixes and monitors.

Event organiser Helen Smedley posted on Facebook yesterday: “And here ends an incredible, exhausting, exhilarating and ultimately blissful Flamefest.

“Although I expected a bit of media interest in the festival, I had no idea that it would explode to the extent that it did, reaching even international news.

“Though this massive media attention meant that our amazing security and steward teams had their work cut out throughout the weekend, it also is hugely welcome publicity for Flamefest, which passed pretty smoothly and totally magically.”

The post was made before the two people were found.

She added: “The weekend was full of smiles, laughter, fun, reunions… new friends were made, incredible music was heard, and much fun was had in the workshops and play area.”
