Court clerk was demoted due to absenteeism: state

A Brooklyn court clerk who claimed her complaints about an allegedly lewd boss were ignored because his wife is a judge was demoted because of absenteeism, the state claims.

Criminal Court Principal Court Clerk Judy Torres- Albert was returned to her previous gig as an associate clerk “due to absences from work,” according to a Manhattan Supreme Court petition filed last week.

Torres-Albert has claimed that her complaints about years of salacious behavior, including creepy requests, on the part of First Deputy Chief Clerk John T. Dougherty were ignored because Dougherty is married to Criminal Court Judge Marguerite Dougherty.

But the state court system says Torres-Albert was rightly booted from the principal clerk’s position, which pays about $8,000 more annually than the associate-clerk slot.
