East End publishing icon Dan Rattiner, the founder of Dan’s Papers, has been immortalized with his own traffic-stopping statue on Route 27 near Southampton.
The statue is of Rattiner riding a 7-foot-tall red lobster.
It was officially unveiled by the Friends of Dan on Monday.
Rattiner’s dad started Dan’s Papers 57 years ago, and though the publications have passed through several owners since, the lobster-riding Dan remains the titular editor and still pens four folksy and widely read columns a week.
The work’s designers used a statue of John Wayne — and then put a likeness of Rattiner’s head on The Duke’s shoulders.
