M60 motorway crash kills one and leaves another seriously injured after three-car pile-up near Manchester

Police are now investigating the tragedy, scouring the scene for clues as the two other men injured in the crash are treated in hospital.

Authorities were called to the M60, between the junctions 18 and 19, about 3.30am to reports of a crash.

Once there, they tragically found one man had died at the scene with another man suffering from a critical head injury.

The third man is also suffering a serious injury.

Motorists have this morning been warned of serious delays after the crash.

Sergeant Danny Byrne, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family of the man who tragically died this morning.

"This is a devastating time for them and we are working to provide them with support from specially trained officers."

According to local media, two of the vehicles were left in one lane, with the third overturned.

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, with Sergeant Danny Byrne adding: "We are going to be conducting enquiries at the scene for some time this morning and the anti-clockwise carriageway remains closed so I would advise motorists to avoid the area as much as possible.

"I would also ask that anybody with information about the collision contacts the SCIU."

Anyone with information should contact GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.

Otherwise, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
