As Uber searches for its next chief executive, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Chief Executive Meg Whitman wants to make clear that it won’t be her.
Whitman’s name was floated by several news reports, which claimed she was at the top of Uber’s list to replace former CEO Travis Kalanick after he had resigned. Speculation increased after she stepped down as chairwoman of HP on Wednesday, but Whitman took to Twitter to dismiss the possibility.
(1/3) Normally I do not comment on rumors, but the speculation about my future and Uber has become a distraction.

Uber’s search for a new chief executive comes after a turbulent year for the company. Kalanick resigned at the end of June, a few days after a report from former US Attorney General Eric Holder recommended big changes to the company’s culture, including less responsibility for Kalanick.
Holder’s report was sparked by a blog post from former Uber engineer Susan Fowler, who claimed she had faced sexual and workplace harassment while working at the company.
Additionally, Uber is locked in a lawsuit with Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo over its self-driving car technology, is facing a criminal investigation related to software for drivers to evade regulators and has faced customer backlash.
Still, Uber is the most valuable private company in the world, according to The Wall Street Journal, with a valuation of $68 billion, and could be eyeing an IPO in the future.
Other names in the mix for CEO include Jeff Immelt, chief executive of General Electric Co., according to The Wall Street Journal. Immelt is planning to leave his position by the end of the month, though he will remain chairman until 2018.
The search committee for the new Uber CEO is made up of five board members, which includes Kalanick as well as Arianna Huffington, co-founder of the Huffington Post, according to the WSJ.
Uber is also looking for a chief financial officer, and has other vacant upper leadership positions, including chief operating officer and chief marketing officer.
