Nonprofit CEO wins News Corp.’s Murdoch Community Hero Award

The president and CEO of Per Scholas — a nonprofit that provides free IT job training — has been named the recipient of News Corp.’s Murdoch Community Hero Award.

Per Scholas CEO Plinio Ayala said he was “honored” by the recognition.

“I am grateful for their commitment to building a community of learning, sharing and support amongst philanthropic leaders,” he said in a statement.

Per Scholas, which has offices in The Bronx and Brooklyn, is one of two organizations chosen to be News Corp. Philanthropy Partners in 2018. The other is Let’s Get Ready, which provides SAT prep and admissions counseling to low-income students.

“News Corp. believes in the extraordinary power of education to enable individuals to rise to their fullest potential” said Keisha Smith-Jeremie, News Corp.’s Chief Human Resource ­Officer and Head of Philanthropy.
