The pedestrian, 20, was rushed to hospital after the "serious collision" in Nottingham with the 20-year-old driver arrested at the scene.
Cops were scrambled to the city centre at around 1.50am and found the woman with life-threatening injuries.
She remains in hospital while officers investigate the cause of the crash.
Roads in the area remain closed this morning as cops comb the area.
Nottinghamshire Police said: "A 20-year old woman has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, following a serious collision in Nottingham city centre in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 7 June 2018).
"Nottinghamshire Police were called at around 1.50am following the collision on Wollaton Street at its junction with Talbot Street.
"Road closures and diversions remain in place and officers remain at the scene, as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
"A 20-year old man, the driver of the car, was arrested following the incident."
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 57 of 7 June.
