Three businessmen, who bought the 3ft bunny to show at a fair and sell merchandise, want damages from United Airlines.
The owners of Simon, a 3ft rabbit who died on a United Airlines flight, plan to sue for damages
The rabbit, destined to be the world’s biggest, was found dead in a kennel in Chicago on April 20 during a stop-over on his journey to Kansas City in the US state of Iowa.
The lawsuit comes as the firm struggles to repair its image after a string of bad publicity, such as a viral video of a passenger being dragged unconscious from a plane.
It also faced criticism after refusing to allow two girls on board because they were wearing leggings.
The valuable rabbit was bought from former Playboy model Annette Edwards, 65, because they planned to display him at the Iowa State Fair and sell themed merchandise.
Lawyer Guy Cook says his clients allege the airline was negligent in caring and transporting Simon, and claim the firm also cremated him without consent.
The execs are demanding unspecified damages to cover the costs of the rabbit as well as punitive damages.

The owners suggest he may have been exposed to freezing temperatures in the cargo compartment of the United Airlines plane
It’s not clear how Simon died, but the owners suggest he may have been exposed to freezing temperatures in the cargo compartment, or that dry ice might have been left in the same compartment.
A United Airlines spokesman says the company is “saddened by Simon’s death” and is reviewing the lawsuit filed by the animal’s owners.
