Parents of West End star ‘face legal action in row over 12-year-old’s schooling’

The parents of West End child star Lilian Hardy are reportedly facing legal action in a row over the Matilda actress’s schooling.

Ms Hardy was one of four girls who played the lead role for six months last year and has always been educated at home.

The Guardian reports the 12-year-old’s parents Edward Hardy and Eileen Tracy may have to go to court if Westminster council are not satisfied that she is receiving a proper education.

Her parents said they had supplied evidence of Lilian’s educational progress.

Ms Tracy told the paper: "Lilian has thrived on being home educated, in ways that have regularly surprised and delighted us and that have clarified for me as an educator how children learn best – through being given freedom to follow their noses."

"Local authorities have sufficient powers if they see a problem.

"But that ‘if’ is key. If the state doesn’t have evidence of a problem, as in our case, then it’s really important that state officials don’t have the power to intervene, so that children and their families can be left in peace to work their own magic."

The council told the paper the parents had "declined meetings" to discuss the issue.
