A PREGNANT woman has died after being hit by a stray bullet while out with her family.
Kami Gilstrap, 24, was hit in the chest after witnesses said they heard three distinct shots ring out in an desert area popular for shooting in Buckeye, Arizona, over the weekend.
Buckeye Police Chief Larry Hall told local media: "There’s tons of ricochets.
"And our incident from yesterday was an indication that the round that was fired at our victim, yesterday, came from a completely different direction than where everybody’s firing right now.
"There are no regulations out here."
Authorities have said they don't know where the shot came from.
Police Chief Hall added: "The biggest challenge we're facing in this investigation, right now is that there are hundreds of shooters out here and there were hundreds of shooters just south of where the incident occurred.
"In trying to determine trajectory, and actually the round that hit her, it's going to be a very challenging investigation at this point."
Kami, who was recently married to an airman station at Luke Air Force Base, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
But despite receiving treatment, the young woman tragically died on Monday from her injuries.
Police are now investigating the incident.
