Shaken baby syndrome eyed in case of brain dead 11-month-old

An 11-month-old baby declared brain dead over the weekend was likely abused, police sources said.

Jeremiah Callaghan is currently on life support at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Queens, where doctors suspect the boy’s injuries are the result of being violently shaken.

The baby was found to be unresponsive when police showed up to his grandfather’s home on 144th Ave. in Brookville, Queens, early Friday morning.

The grandfather, Clinton Callaghan, 54, told cops the boy had vomited after drinking formula earlier in the night.

Jeremiah was taken first to Jamaica Hospital before being transferred to Cohen’s, police sources said.

Doctors told police the boy was likely abused and had injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome, as well as hemorrhaging in the eyes and bruises on his back and arms.

Doctors declared the boy brain dead. He has no prior medical history or ailments, police sources said.

The Administration for Children’s Services has been notified.

No arrests have been made and the incident is still under investigation.
