A WOMAN was stunned to find brazen thieves had ripped up a section of her front lawn in the middle of the day.
Judy Dean nipped out to go to the shops on Wednesday afternoon and noticed the artificial grass section had been nicked.
Her front garden is now a bare sandy patch outside her Essex home.
The 65-year-old thinks thieves had taken the £200 piece, that has been down for about five years, between 8.30am and 3pm.
Judy, who was brought up in the Romford house, said: “To say I was shocked is an understatement.
“I read about these things that go on here and have never really suffered but I suppose times are changing.
“I was going to put Christmas trees on the doorstep but I wonder if it’s worth putting those out now.
“It was when I went out that it dawned on me the grass had gone.”
Mrs Dean had the lawn put down to avoid the hassle of regularly cutting grass, that with her arthritis was becoming increasingly tedious.
She said: "My son-in -law used to say to me that someone is going to nick it.
"I must admit when I go to bed I always look out of the window and when I get up I always look out the window to see if it’s there.
"I’m getting on and because I’ve got problem with my knees with arthritis, I thought l would pay and have it done once."
Although artificial lawns don’t need cutting, they do need weedkilling, with Judy adding: “I’m just glad I didn’t spend time weedkilling it beforehand. Then I would have been really mad.”
