A nudist colony in a sleepy village which boasted a sex dungeon, pool and sauna has closed its doors after losing a string of legal battles.
The Kestrel Hydro Naturists Spa, nestled in the village of Stanwell Moor in Surrey, opened more than 10 years ago, but this week confirmed that it has finally shut.
It was initially ordered to close by bosses at Spelthorne Borough Council in 2013 after failing to get permission to be run as an adult private members’ club.
Council chiefs also said that the club was in breach of planning laws and that "outdoor structures and hardstandings" – including the sex dungeon and "sex cabins" – had been been built illegally in a residential area in the green belt.
Bosses at the spa appealed to the High Court to overturn the decision, but in 2016, Mr Justice Holgate sitting at the High Court, threw out the spa’s request and ordered that it demolish the sex dungeons and cabins.
He agreed with the council and said the buildings were built without planning permission and were an "inappropriate development" on green belt land.
The court heard how bosses at the spa had built a string of "outbuildings" without planning permissions and that one contained "cages, harnesses and other associated facilities".
Other buildings, called sex cabins, were used for "one-to-one" sessions between members – and came complete with mattresses and towels.
The court heard how the spa – which is just a normal house – was originally a hydrotherapy centre, but had become a " full-blown nudist colony " more than a decade ago.
Bosses at the club – which charged couples £40 to attend the spa, with single women paying £15 and single men £50 – set up a petition to challenge the decision and fought a planning battle with the council.
After losing High Court battle, bosses at the club – which also held events called AbFabParties – appealed to the Court of Appeal, but lost again.
And this week, the spa finally confirmed that the club has now closed its doors.
In a post on its website, it stated: "Dear members, As you know, we’ve been fighting a long battle with the council to keep Kestrel and AbFabParties open and we would like to thank all of you for your help and support throughout this period.
“However, it is now prudent that we close both Kestrel and AbFabParties.
“We are looking to relocate to commercial premises, so this is not the end for us. It will take some time but please don’t lose faith and come back to us once we reopen.”
The spa boasted that it was home to a string of outdoor attractions, including a sauna, hot tub, heated swimming pool and banqueting tent for members.
The spa’s website states: "Everyone has a first time! …pluck-up the courage…and you will be amazed at the friendly, welcoming and fun community that you are joining.
"Our naturist spa provides a relaxed, intimate and no-pressure environment where you can relax, chat and make new friends.
"We provide a wide variety of interesting areas to explore and you may prefer to explore them on your own, as a couple, or with others.
"Both experienced and new couples are welcome at our Spa.
"The venue is naturist, hence you must remove all of your clothing in the changing area.
"You may use the towels provided, or bring your own. We also recommend that you bring your own flip flops and your own towelling robe, if you prefer."
Graham Tattershall, a director of the spa, said previously: "The spa is run very professionally and there’s no impact on the local village."
