A teenage dad-to-be was savaged to death by a pack of stray dogs – before the same animals left a young woman fighting for her life just hours later.
Oleg Shushunov, 18, died from blood loss after being set upon by at least eight ferocious dogs, with his cries for help going unanswered as he was bitten “dozens” of times.
Friends said his girlfriend was expecting a baby and spoke of their shock that he is "gone".
In a separate incident, just four hours later in Kursakovo village in Russia’s Moscow region, the pack attacked a 24-year-old woman.
Mum-of-one Kristina Rostova suffered horrific bites to her head and face, with half her hair ripped out and one ear wrenched off by a dog’s teeth.
The brutal attack on Oleg happened at around midnight as he was walking to a friend’s house 52 miles west of Moscow.
Tragically, no-one heard his screams for help.
A horrific picture shows the decorator’s savaged body lying in the snow , his clothes ripped to shreds, as the incident was caught on CCTV.
Oleg’s friend Nikita Orekhov, 18, said “I still can’t believe that he is has gone.
“All of his friends and relatives are in grief."
A local source said: “CCTV cameras footage was taken away by police.
“The cameras were at a local café and it is clear how the young man was attacked by stray dogs.
“The café was closed at the time so no-one was in the streets.
“Nobody heard his cries for help”.
It is believed that Oleg’s mother and younger brother had been attacked by strays previously.
On the same Zheleznodorozhnaya Street, only hours later, Kristina was also savaged by the same dog pack, according to local media.
She would also have been killed if local man Pyotr Trifonov had not rushed to her rescue with a spade to beat off the dogs after hearing her cries, police said.
“I dragged her with one hand and beat the dogs away with the other,” said her rescuer.
“When I reached the front door of my block of flats, I called the ambulance and police.
“Only then did I notice the extent of her injuries.
“All her clothes were bitten, clumps of her hair were all over the place.
“There was almost no hair on the half of her head.
“She was in a grave condition, I only saw how bad when I had pulled her away from the dogs.
“I kept waking her, she was in shock.
“I didn’t want her to faint.
“She was a true fighter.”
He said he could easily have found himself “lying there next to her” but managed to fight off the animals.
Andrey Dunaev, head of administration at local Istra district council, said: “The young woman has undergone surgery.
“She is in a grave condition in hospital.
“The dogs have been caught.”
“I have also ordered more active work on catching stray animals,” he said.
“I am urging all citizens to forward their information about stray dogs to me personally.”
It is understood the dogs have been destroyed.
Russia is currently suffering acute problems from strays in many regions .
But there is controversy at the “cruel” way the animals have been exterminated by “canine KGB” squads in cities hosting World Cup games this summer.
In many cases, poisons are used leading to painful deaths.
In Kursakovo, with a population of 1,800, locals say they have repeatedly warned about the dangerous strays. However, they claim authorities have ignored them.
“It’s only after these two tragedies that the dog-catchers were sent,” one local alleged.
