Ten labourers died after a road bridge collapsed into a deep canyon in Colombia

TEN labourers died when a road bridge they were building collapsed into a deep canyon.

Monday’s tragedy happened 60 miles from Bogota, the capital of Colombia.

Nine people were killed at the scene, but the tenth person died later in hospital with severe injuries.

It is reported that the labourers were working on the drainage along the bridge when the structure fell.

Authorities are determining how many people were working on the bridge and if anyone is still missing.

The head of disaster response for Meta province Reinaldo Romero said: “We are doing a check to rule out other victims."

The cause of the disaster is being probed by officials.
