SHOCKING footage shows a curious dog narrowly escaping a flesh-eating ALLIGATOR after swimming through floodwaters caused by Hurricane Irma.
Corina Cox, 37, had taken her mutt Pokey out for a walk and a swim in Kissimmee, Florida following the megastorm which killed dozens in the Caribbean and US.
The terrifying video shows the curious dog wading into the floodwaters before a large gator emerges beside it.
Corina, who was evacuated from her home during the deadly hurricane, is then seen tugging on the pooch’s lead before the video dramatically ends.
The scared dog owner confirmed she wasn’t paying attention when her dog went for the a dip in the muddy waters.
She said: "I was looking through my phone directly at Pokey and not watching my surroundings at all.
"It looks like Pokey saw it and jumped out to see what it was, it must have startled the alligator."
Corina revealed she was able to pull her beloved pet to safety.
She said: "When I saw the gator pop up next to him I just started pulling in his retractable leash as fast as possible.
"It scared me so bad that I couldn't stand up and had jelly legs crawling up to the house.
"The gator stayed there for about an hour till the wind started to pick up from Irma.
"I imagine he was waiting for him to come back so he could eat him.
"I definitely learned a lesson on many levels."
