Trump goes after China for alleged technology theft

President Trump on Monday signed an executive action that asks his trade office to explore a possible investigation into China for the alleged theft of American technology and intellectual property.

Trump also suggested that additional steps would be taken against China on trade issues.

“This is just the beginning,” Trump said as he signed the memo at the White House.

“The theft of intellectual property by foreign countries costs our nation millions of jobs and billions and billions of dollars each and every year. For too long, this wealth has been drained from our country while Washington has done nothing . . . but Washington will turn a blind eye no longer.”

“We will stand up to any country that unlawfully forces American companies to transfer their valuable technology as a condition of market access.”

The state-run China Daily urged the United States to avoid “a rash decision it will soon regret.”
