Trump slams Harley-Davidson over tariff dispute

President Trump claimed Monday that Harley-Davidson was “the first to wave the White Flag” after the US motorcycle maker announced they would be moving some production overseas to avoid retaliatory tariffs by the EU.

“Surprised that Harley-Davidson, of all companies, would be the first to wave the White Flag,” Trump wrote in a tweet.

“I fought hard for them and ultimately they will not pay tariffs selling into the E.U., which has hurt us badly on trade, down $151 Billion.”

Harley-Davidson said it stood to lose as much as $100 million a year as a result of the tariffs. In response, most of their production for bikes sold in the EU will be moved to Europe.

Trump cast the current trade dispute with traditional allies as a temporary bump in the road.

“Taxes just a Harley excuse – be patient! #MAGA,” he tweeted.
