An Alabama woman has turned herself in to police for a hit-and-run accident that killed a handicapped man in a motorized wheelchair.
Christina Marie Carroll of Florence, Alabama was booked on charges Tuesday for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, Al.com reported.
Police said that an SUV fatally struck Kevin Allan Doherty, 57, while he was traveling Friday night in his motorized wheelchair.
Doherty was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Carroll, 26, was arrested at Lauderdale County Courthouse after the police asked the public for help identifying the driver.
“Witnesses that observed the crash described the vehicle as a small SUV,” Florence Police said Tuesday prior to her arrest.
Carroll is in custody at the Lauderdale County Detention Center on a $2,500 bond.
