Medics could not revive the victim, in her 50s, who may have collapsed due to cold temperatures.
Sussex Police investigating the death just after 6am on Saturday in Bognor Regis found nothing suspicious.
She was discovered soon after dawn on Saturday and police immediately launched an investigation.
However, they found nothing to suggest her death was suspicious and passed the incident on to the West Sussex coroner for a post mortem examination to be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of her death.
Her body was taken to the mortuary at St. Richard's Hospital Chichester.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "The body of a woman was found outside a property in Sadler Street, Bognor Regis, around 6.20am on Saturday March 10.
There are no suspicious circumstances.
A spokesman said: “It has been passed to the coroner’s officer.” An inquest opens this week.
