Antonio Banderas is so irresistible that Caroline Rhea inadvertently ruined her sister’s wedding photos to chase him down a New York City street.
“My sister Cynthia was getting married at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church,” Rhea, 54, recently told Page Six. “Antonio Banderas walked by and I, without even realizing, left the family photos and chased him down the street until I could get a look into his eyes. I actually ended up meeting him years and years later and told him that he ruined my sister’s wedding … in a weird way.”
Rhea, who spent years on the New York comedy scene before breaking through to the mainstream on “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” in 1996, is the host of “Caroline and Friends” on the Game Show Network on weekdays at 4 p.m.
The comedy veteran says the show was inspired by a conversation with her own best friend that had to be paused so her pal could watch three consecutive goat videos.
Rhea, who loves “Caroline and Friends” for its levity, embraces being recognized as Aunt Hilda and admitted she doesn’t even mind when she’s mistakenly recognized for other things (and as other stars).
“I liked it when I was handed an 8×10 glossy and they said, ‘Will you please sign this for me?’ And I said, ‘I will, but I am not Maureen McCormick, nor am I Marcia Brady, but I will sign it,’” she said. “I always know people think I’m someone else when they come up to me and go, ‘I can’t believe it’s you, I love you so much … Your work is so, so, important.’ I’m like, ‘Important? I’m sorry, which work — it’s a lot of fun work, but important?’ Then I was like, ‘I’m not Catherine O’Hara.’ ”
One mistaken identity she’d never deny? Fellow comedian Amy Schumer.
“I always get upgraded when they think I’m Amy, so shh!” She added, “I look like anyone who’s doughy and cartilage-based.”
