Archie Lyndhurst’s mother Lucy has paid touching tribute to her son on what would have been his 21st birthday.
The actor and son of Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst died in his sleep from a brain haemorrhage caused by a rare cancer aged 19, in September 2020.
Alongside family photos of Archie from baby to young man and throughout this childhood, Lucy wrote on Instagram: ‘Today, 4th October, will always be the best day of our lives. The day you arrived and completed us.
‘Every adventure has been amazing and utterly joyous, we can never thank you enough for the tremendous ride.’
She continued: ‘Today is your 21st birthday. A day we’d talked about for years and the plans you had for it. I wish more than anything your story and adventures could have continued.
‘You deserved so much more. You only ever gave to the world. I shall never understand why. Never.

‘We now live in a world we no longer understand and maybe it doesn’t understand us either. But our love for you still grows as it always did. That will never diminish.
‘The pain of not seeing you every day or hearing your voice and your laughter is absolutely agonising. We think about you night and day. You are the best son anyone could wish for. A parents dream.
‘I always said you were only on loan to us. I just didn’t realise how short a time we had. You didn’t waste a second though. You charmed so many peoples [sic] lives, they are the lucky ones who got to know you.
‘We love you beyond measure and hope you like what we are doing to honour you today. ‘Big Love’ darling boy. To the moon and back and beyond. “In a Bizzle” M & OM XxX’.
CBBC star Archie played the young versions of Jack Whitehall’s characters in Bad Education and Little Crackers, with the comedian praising him as ‘passionate, generous and pitch perfect’ and ‘a truly special soul’.
He was best known for starring as Ollie in the BBC children’s show So Awkward, with his famous father even making an appearance in a 2019 episode.
Archie’s castmate and girlfriend Nethra Tilakumara also marked the actor’s special day on Instagram, sharing a black and white photo of him smiling with his eyes screwed up.
‘Happy 21st birthday my love,’ she wrote.

The 22-year-old also shared clips with her boyfriend on her Stories, including one of him chopping up onions in a dressing gown and sunglasses, and a picture of him she captioned: ‘My favourite person on the planet was born today.’
She had previously shared an emotional tribute in April, on what would have been the couple’s two-year anniversary, as she wrote she had ‘only wished for so many more years’.
Mum Lucy also acknowledged Mother’s Day in March with a post as she said: ‘To get through today without you is the hardest thing ever. I miss you every minute of every day.’
Archie’s cause of death was confirmed in a post-mortem just before Christmas as an intracerebral haemorrhage caused by acute lymphoblastic lymphoma/leukaemia – a very rare condition which kills just 800 people a year.
